Sports Medicine
What is Sports Medicine?
The prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
What is a Student Athletic Trainer?
As a student athletic trainer, you will work with over 800 athletes participating in 17 sports and 57 different teams. This will include the preparation of first aid kits, supplies and equipment for practices and games. You will learn first aid wound management, injury care, taping, wrapping and CPR. Students will be taught many forms of rehabilitation and assist in the rehabilitation of injured athletes. Students will also learn organizational and record keeping skills. Participation in the Sports Medicine Program will require a considerable time demand. Coaches and athletes depend on the Student Athletic Trainers for their assistance and care. Working as a Student Athletic Trainer requires dependability and responsibility. You will be required to attend The Greater Houston Athletic Trainer Society workshop each year and prepare a poster for the workshop.
